Even inside the same discipline, technology does not advances on a par. The digital filming techniques, by instance, have revolutionized the movie industry. However, in many places, we continue to see those movies through an analogical device, with a film and a source of light.

This story is true for many other disciplines and situations. Architecture, clothing industry, even social experiences. Therefore, there are two kinds of research going on: one, the one who’s thinking in how things will be in 30 years, where all our current technology is replaced for the new one (even though I am skeptical that this total replacement can actually happen). This research is thinking “ok, we can produce an image of X pixels…when we project this image the resolution of the screen will allow us to see…”.
The other research that’s going on, is the one that’s trying to balance the people rushing to adopt a new imcomplete technology-chain (digital filming, CAD/CAM), and the actual reality of our infrastructure. These are the anonymous heroes that are building our illusion’s of new technology.
